Step by Step Directions
Dice up all your ingredients as finely as possible. I’m not personally a fan of a chunky dip, but if that’s your jam then more power to you.
The steak used in cheesesteaks is traditionally a sirloin or a ribeye, but if that’s not in the cards for you any cut will do, just make sure that you slice it as thinly as possible. If you want to tenderize (pound or marinate) it ahead of time that can make a cheaper cut taste all the better.

Cook all your ingredients (save the garlic) in a pan over medium heat with your butter. At the bare minimum you want your ingredients to be cooked, but if you want to add some time to the recipe you can caramelize the onions and peppers first and then add the steak to cook in the onions and peppers.

Right when your steak is just about cooked you should add in your garlic, salt and pepper. Raw garlic is the most pungent, so the longer it cooks down the more flavor it loses.

In an oven safe dish combine all your ingredients and mix them together. The sour cream helps to spread the cream cheese around more evenly if you feel like your ratio doesn’t match between the cream cheese and the meat mixture.
Cover the top of your mixture with your cheese.

Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes. If you want for the last couple of minutes you can turn the broiler on and make sure the cheese on top is really melted.
Enjoy. (also, you can get a really great cheese pull if that’s of interest to you)

Variations
- Change up the type of cheese, Cheese Whiz is a local favorite, but if you want pepper jack or something stronger go nuts
- Add some different spices, cook the steak with Worcestershire, or add some hot sauce into the mix, change out the bell pepper for jalapeno
